Nutrition and Food Choices

Hello, my name is Charlie, thanks for clicking to find out more about me.

I'm passionate about food and how it can heal us or hurt us.
I personally love eating great food (a lot), that is not only delicious, but also nutritious!
I also love learning about what makes us happier and healthier; and finding ways of helping people to improve their health using nutrition and psychology.
Helping people become empowered in their food choices, so that they are confident and happy selecting healthier options, is incredibly rewarding!
There is so much information available about how to eat, what to eat, and when to eat - I actually love reading it all and then passing on the relevant bits to my clients, so they don't have to hunt through mountains of (often conflicting and ever-changing) information!

It is no wonder that so many people struggle to eat healthily, when there are so many mixed messages about what to eat. Nowadays there is so much choice, and yet little of what is available in our supermarkets is of benefit to us nutritionally. Much of it doesn’t even qualify as real ‘food’!

Did I mention how much I love great food?
I don't believe in starving yourself or living off meal replacement shakes. I do believe that by eating in a way that is varied and healthy, and that includes foods that are good for you, you can be happier, reach your optimal weight and enjoy lifelong health.

People are often preoccupied with how they look and how much they weigh, but how often do they think about how they feel? What we eat can often affect many areas of our lives, including, sleep, mood, health, performance, concentration and energy. I love helping people change their nutritional habits and starting to ‘feel’ healthier, as well as look healthier!

I originally trained in Psychology and Dramatherapy, however realised that people’s diets played a huge role in their wellbeing and psyches as well as their physiologies. When working with clients with issues such as depression, they can receive huge amounts of therapy and medication, however if your diet is poor or lacking in nutrients, it can greatly affect your mood and prevent improvement.

As I have always been interested in nutrition and healing ourselves through foods, I decided to continue training and enrolled on a course run by one of the world’s foremost integrative health practitioners, Dr Deanna Minich (USA). Here I learned that nutrition is much more than just the food we eat. Dr Minich’s Food & Spirit™ system looks at the connection between the food we eat and how we feel, and combines our food choices and eating behaviours with our lives.

From there I decided to build my coaching skills. Whilst staying in the field of nutrition, I trained with Well College Global, (formerly Cadence Health), the second-foremost Health Care Training Provider in Australia, gaining an Advanced Certification in Nutrition and Health Coaching and a Professional Certificate in Menu and Meal Planning. I have also trained in Kitchen Medicine (using herbs and spices for natural wellbeing) and done further training with Dr Minich on the use of ‘Food and Supplements’ for health.

I really enjoy working with people who truly want to make changes in their relationship with food; as well as helping them with achieving their goals or improving their health and lifestyle in a sustainable manner. I don’t like diets and I don’t agree with them, I also don’t agree with restricting or starving yourself (that is never going to improve your mood and wellbeing!) I believe that restricting ourselves constantly doesn’t work, and if you are anything like me you’ll either want food more, or be so grumpy and miserable that you’ll wreck the wellbeing of yourself and of those around you! However, I do believe that we can change what we crave, what we like, and the choices we make...

If you want help filtering through your food choices and habits, then I can help. I love researching and getting into the details. If you struggle to know what some of those long words in ingredients lists mean then I can help you make sense of it all. For example, explaining why potassium is necessary for health, but Acesulfame-Potassium is bad!

There is no quick-fix or fast-track to good health, but if you want to make a lasting change then I can help you. Many people can help you to lose weight — I can help you improve your health!
